To ensure a student is covered, employers must sign a work agreement with the school authority before work begins.<\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">According to the Alberta Off-campus Education Handbook, a work agreement must include:<\/p><ul><li><i>clearly outlined parameters regarding a student\u2019s off-campus education work schedule (i.e., dates, days, and times a student is expected to participate in the off-campus learning experience)<\/i><\/li><li><i>additional health and safety parameters where a student is required to work outside of the recommended maximum hours outlined in the Hours of Work section of this handbook<\/i><\/li><li><i>the appropriate written consent<\/i><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersnextgen.ca\/old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/edc-off-campus-education-handbook-2019-en.pdf#page=50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to see a sample work agreement.<\/a><\/p><h4 style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><strong>What to do in case of an incident<\/strong><\/h4><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">According to the Alberta Off-campus Education Handbook, an employer has the following responsibilities in the case of an injury:<\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><i>If a student is injured at the work site, the employer must immediately contact the off-campus teacher if<\/i><\/p><ul><li><i>the student requires medical treatment beyond first aid; and\/or<\/i><\/li><li><i>the injury results in lost time away from the work site.<\/i><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><i>Note: Even if WCB notification is not required, the employer\u2019s onsite supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the injury is recorded in the employer\u2019s incident\/injury record book.<\/i><\/p><h5 style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><i><strong>Injuries are to be reported to WCB within 72 hours; thus, the employer must alert the off-campus teacher as soon as they learn about the incident so that the off-campus teacher can submit the appropriate paperwork in the required time frame<\/strong><\/i><\/h5><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><i>The employer, in collaboration with the off-campus teacher, will determine whether an Employer Report of Injury form needs to be submitted by the employer to WCB-Alberta.<\/i><\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">For more information on response to incidents, please reference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersnextgen.ca\/old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/edc-off-campus-education-handbook-2019-en.pdf#page=34\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Alberta Off-campus Education Handbook.<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Liability and Incidents Insurance High school students placed in off-campus work experiences are covered by Workers\u2019 Compensation Board (WCB) insurance through their school authority.
