11 years ago, we held our first Golf Classic and paid tribute to its namesake, former Syncrude Canada CEO and CAREERS founding chair, Eric Newell. As a leader in the community, Eric’s steadfast commitment and continual advocacy for youth in Alberta has been nothing short of inspirational. 11 years since the first tee off, we couldn’t be more proud to honour the work he started – helping Alberta youth on their path to rewarding careers. Because of the generous support of all our partners, the Golf Classic has raised over $1,000,000 for student programming in the last decade!
As our primary fundraiser for the year, the ‘Kidz in Careers’ Golf Classic typically raises $100,000 of critical funds to support the work that our team does across the province, keeping youth engaged in their education and readying them for future career success. We are so grateful to our generous partners who chose to convert their 2020 tournament sponsorship into a donation to CAREERS this year.
Although our tournament might be cancelled, there is another way you can use the game to support CAREERS. By donating through a program called Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink before August 30th, YOUR DONATION WILL BE MATCHED BY UP TO 50%!
This program was created under the Calgary Shaw Charity Golf Classic to benefit a number of charities across Alberta, including CAREERS. Although the Shaw Charity Golf Classic has also been cancelled due to health precautions, Shaw Communications has committed $1 million to match Bird for Kids donations.
With the loss of our biggest fundraiser of the year, your support will go a long way towards helping us provide career awareness, exploration, and experience for Alberta youth.
And last but not least, Save the Date for ‘Kidz in Careers’ 2021: Thursday, July 8th at Heritage Pointe Golf Club! We can`t wait to see everyone again and celebrate the opportunity to come together. Reserve your sponsorship spot today by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
